Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by being an runner for the poker players. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his abilities happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly wager against one another. Howard was able to access some of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard headed to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
