Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
