Internet poker has become globally acclaimed as of late, with televised championships and celebrity poker game shows. The games universal appeal, though, stretches back quite a bit further than its TV scores. Over the years several variations on the earliest poker game have been developed, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these particular games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely resembling chemin de fer than old guard poker, in that the gamblers wager against the house rather than the other players. The succeeding hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is little concealment or different types of concealment. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up prior to the croupier broadcasting "No further bets." At that instance, both you and the bank and of course every one of the other gamblers are given 5 cards each. Once you have looked at your hand and the casino’s initial card, you must in turn make a call wager or surrender. The call bet’s value is akin to your beginning bet, meaning that the stakes will have increased two fold. Abandoning means that your ante goes instantaneously to the casino. After the bet comes the showdown. If the house does not have ace/king or better, your bet is returned, with an amount in accordance with the ante. If the bank does have ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand defeats the bank’s hand. The house pony’s up chips even with your bet and controlled expectations on your call wager. These expectations are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • two to one for 2 pairs
  • three to one for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • five to one for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
  • fifty to one for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush
