Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved playing numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he would play countless hours and lose most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.

The real advancement in his skills began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would often challenge each other. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena ever. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
