Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
