Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
