NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
